The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences Deploy Instem’s Hosted Provantis™ Solution

Hosted Remote Delivery Model Reduces IT Complexity

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA – (BUSINESS WIRE) – August 11, 2008 - - Instem, a leading provider of early drug development software solutions, announced today that The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences (The Hamner) located in Research Triangle Park, N.C., has purchased a subscription to access the Provantis™ preclinical software solution over the Internet.

The Hamner is an independent, nonprofit organization that unites academia, the private sector, and government to conduct translational research for improved human health assessments and the development of new and safer medicines.  Built upon an integrated systems-biology platform, its mission is to promote the advancement and dissemination of biomedical sciences knowledge among these groups, with the ultimate goal of preventing or curing disease.

Provantis™ is a modern, fully integrated software system for single users and global organizations engaged in non-clinical evaluation studies. Orchestrating every facet of preclinical drug safety assessment, Provantis™ streamlines processes and workflows with straightforward, intuitive functionality for simple and complex studies within a GLP or non-GLP environment.

“Using Provantis over the Internet allows our staff to focus on research rather than technology,” comments Elizabeth Gross Bermudez, Manager of the Provantis solution at The Hamner. “The Provantis™ system is a critical component in our research, one that increases quality and study throughput while actually reducing technical and administrative resources from our Preclinical, IT and Support Services groups.”

Using Instem’s hosted remote delivery model offers simpler, more cost-effective ways to provide software functionality, maintenance, and support over the Internet. This approach removes the need for on-site software and ensures clients like The Hamner can access the latest major releases of Provantis without the delays and costs traditionally involved with site-based installations. The Hamner has complete in-application access to their data just as if their software was deployed on-site, yet they no longer require additional hardware or dedicated resources.

“Launched in 2005, our SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) model has set the standard for Web delivery and is now used for GLP and non-GLP studies from North America to Australia by clients of all sizes,” states Iain Graham, a SaaS technical specialist at Instem. “Being GLP compliant just wasn’t good enough; we went far beyond and serve our application from an environment that offers the highest levels of security and performance, one that is military-grade and used by all of the leading pharmaceutical and life sciences companies listed in the Forbes Global 500. No other vendor in our market has the ability to state this, and our financial strength has allowed us to make these investments while keeping our subscription rate plans affordable, simple and flexible.”
